Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick. What makes it such as classic? Perhaps its Ian Dury’s lyrics celebrating the uniting force of a good beat, conjuring up images of Eskimos and Ararapahos swaying in time together. For me though, it was the fast n funky bassline made even more incredible by the fact that these were no Fairlight generated low notes. They were from the big hands of Norman Watt-Roy.
He’s the king of the bass, as far as I’m concerned so I’m delighted to announce that his debut album, Faith and Grace will be dropping on Monday.
He’s also playing at Rough Trade East, London on Wednesday 24th July at 7pm. If you buy the album from the store you get a wristband to get into the gig. See you there!
